The Gallery Café at the Art Gallery of NSW is a vibrant hub that serves a diverse community, welcoming visitors, members, and staff alike. It’s a place to connect, enjoy a meal, converse, plan, rest, and recharge.
We are currently seeking a talented Head Chef to join our team. This position is responsible for overseeing the management of the Gallery Café and Members Lounge at the Art Gallery of NSW. The Head Chef will collaborate closely with the Executive Chef at AGNSW to develop new menus and ensure the highest standards of food production are maintained.
The café operates 7 days a week from 10am to 5pm, with extended hours on Wednesdays until 9pm.

About the Role
- Oversee and ensure the smooth running of all kitchen operations, including

- Kitchen Administration
- Food and Labour costs and controls
- Budgeting and forecasting
- Health and hygiene
- Staff management and recruitment
- Oversee all food production for both the Gallery Cafe and the Members Lounge
- Work with the Executive Chef at AGNSW to develop menus and maintain high food production standards.
- Assist in the creation of seasonally changing menus
- Through effective communication and inspirational leadership, maintain and develop a dedicated team
- Drive strategic business decisions for the venue
Essential Requirements
- Qualifications in Cookery
- Minimum of three years in a leadership role in a quality café environment
- Enjoy working in a busy environment with a true passion for cooking
- A keen eye for detail and a positive and proactive approach
- Proven ability to lead by example and foster a creative and organised environment where team members take pride in their work
- Excellent organisational skills with a proven ability to plan for the future
- Motivated, with a drive to challenge yourself daily and deliver the very best
